The objective of this study is to answer these questions by means of a bibliometric analysis of publications devoted to environmental monitoring platforms integrated into smart cities. Using data retrieved from the Scopus database, this study examines the evolution of scientific output, identifies the most prolific authors, institutions, and countries, and analyzes collaboration networks and dominant research themes through keyword co-occurrence. Particular attention is given to Africa’s scientific visibility and participation in this field. By addressing these questions, the study provides useful insights for several categories of stakeholders.
